In partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda, a new water pipeline for Nzove. The pipeline is three times bigger than the current one.

He said "The step we’ve reached today is commendable; this project, undertaken in collaboration with our Japanese partners, aims to ensure that water is provided here in the Nzove area and is efficiently distributed throughout the Kigali city network. The pipeline can supply 84,000 cubic meters of water per day, but we initially started with 53,000 cubic meters. Now, we have reached 73,000 cubic meters because this project has increased our daily capacity by 16,000 cubic meters".

Fidele Abimana, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA), states that these projects, along with others, are aimed at achieving the NST1 target of ensuring 100% access to clean water, primarily in rural areas.

He said, "We have reached 82% of the NST1 target nationwide within the last 3 to 4 months, and all these projects are expected to further increase this percentage. We continue to implement projects to increase access to water and electricity services for citizens, and the progress is promising because, within the next 3 months, many activities will be completed. This particular project alone will provide water to 145,000 citizens, and with other ongoing projects reaching 82% completion as of 2022, we are confident we can exceed the target."

The Nzove - Ntora water supply project commenced in 2019 but faced delays due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its completion was rescheduled and finalized towards the end of 2023, aiming to address the challenge of water scarcity in the city of Kigali and its outskirts.
