It is a problem that they say started with the market in 2012, all the leaders of this District have been told and they have not done anything.

They say that the smell of this garbage that is dumped lingers when it shows up, especially when it rains because it all goes down to the market so those who work there are always worried about contracting diseases from pollution.

Munyakaragwe Evariste, who is selling potatoes, said: "Everyone sees this garbage as very dangerous, even the leaders who do not see it, I don't know what else he sees, here it is not in the garbage it is in the market. Also, this city is accessible to all people, those who want to visit it, and those who want more; most of them need to come here to shop. Is this an achievement we can brag about?”

He says that although he doesn't have much health knowledge, but he believes that the bad air from this garbage and the flies that come on the products containing uncooked food, can cause diseases.

Mrs. Nyiragasigwa Kansilida, who sells vegetables, says that vegetable and fruit sellers are going to lose buyers because of this pollution.

She said, “In a country that is the first in the world in terms of cleanliness. How can such a downtown market survive such pollution? Karongi are not in Rwanda, don't they have leaders who look after such problems? Are there no cleaners so people close their noses and cover what they should show the customers because of the dirt?

One of the shoppers in this market also said that it shows a bad image, saying, "I'm not wrong, I had decided not to come back to shop in this market, especially since it rained. Are these flies that you buy acorns or seeds to eat? Not. If it is not resolved quickly, those in charge should let those who can give us clean, the Head of State is always encouraging us, otherwise, we would not be going anywhere.

The Mayor of Karongi District, Mrs. Mukase Valentine, promises that she will make this issue going to make it as history.

She said: “I know that garbage is there and it's not good. Shortly, it will come out because it was not intended."

She says that it is not the only one, but there are ways like the District that they think of to collect garbage and put it in a place where it will transform other things instead of disturbing the people.

She revealed that there is a partner they are working with even after signing the contract, who is still campaigning in the community, in hotels, and other big establishments, and they will pay and take them as in Kigali City do it.
